[Séminaire] Cycle Agorantic 2025/26 #4 – Mingrong She – “Collaboration Networks and Career Dynamics in Physics” – 21 mai 2026

📜 Titre : Collaboration Networks and Career Dynamics in Physics

📅 Date : 21 mai 2026

📌 Résumé : Academic career success depends on multiple factors, with collaboration networks and international mobility recognized as particularly important. Using longitudinal publication data from physics, I investigate how collaboration patterns shape career trajectories from two complementary perspectives. First, I examine how network structural characteristics, including network size, clustering coefficient, and tie strength, relate to career progression outcomes such as attaining principal investigator status and career longevity. Second, I trace how collaboration networks evolve across career stages using time-series clustering to identify distinct evolutionary patterns and their associations with mobility and long-term career outcomes.

👩‍🏫 Oratrice : Mingrong is a PhD candidate at the Department of Data Analytics and Digitalisation (School of Business and Economics) of Maastricht University since October 2021. Previously, she graduated with double master degrees in Economics both from University of Nottingham and University of Konstanz. Currently her research lays in applying statistical inference and network analysis to large-scale gender-annotated bibliometric datasets to investigate gender mixing and its impact on dropout, which could develop agent-based models of enrollment, promotion, and dropout in academia and use these to investigate mitigation strategies..
